Dear constituents, supporters, and friends,
I want to thank everyone who wrote to me concerning the situation in Parliament over the last week and those who attended the Canadians for Democracy rally in Kitchener on December 6. The Governor General has accepted the Prime Minister’s advice to prorogue Parliament until January 26.
Canadians have been clear with their opinion. They elected our government with a strengthened mandate less than two months ago.
Now we must get on with our most important priority – the economy.
The first order of business when Parliament returns will be a new federal budget. Until then we will be focusing on ensuring that the budget addresses Canadians’ concerns about the economy.
My colleagues and I welcome all opposition MPs – particularly the national parties – to work with us and provide constructive ideas on the economy.
Until then, I will continue my work as Member of Parliament for our community and as Minister of State for Science & Technology.
Because so many of you were concerned with what could have happened had Parliament not been prorogued, my offices have received an overwhelming amount of e-mails expressing support for our Government and democracy in Canada.
Though a response to your message may not come immediately, I ask that you please have patience during this moment in Canadian history.
Again, thank you for all of your messages. I truly value all the suggestions and words of support that I have received.
Yours truly,
Gary Goodyear, MP
Cambridge-North Dumfries
Minister of State (Science and Technology)
