Dear Colleagues,
As you know, our Government’s top priority is the economy. One of the best and most effective ways to help small and medium-sized businesses succeed and create jobs is to reduce the red tape burden they face every day.
In January, the Prime Minister launched the Red Tape Reduction Commission with the mandate to hear from small business owners about their major red tape concerns. The Commission is comprised of small business owners as well as our fellow Parliamentarians Lois Brown, Cathy McLeod, Chris Warkentin, Maxime Bernier and Dean Allison.
The roundtable consultation process has almost concluded. I have had the pleasure of chairing over a dozen meetings with small business owners across Canada. We have received great input to date, with several common themes emerging.
The Commission will soon provide an interim report in the spring, with our final report to Minister Day to come in the fall.
I encourage you to inform your constituents about the Commission’s website at www.reduceredtape.gc.ca
Here small business owners in your ridings can tell us about their frustrations dealing with government red tape. They can also provide us with their ideas for how to solve these problems.
If you have any further questions, or require further information on the Red Tape Reduction Commission, please feel free to contact Sean Phelan in my office at sean.phelan@ic.gc.ca or 613-943-7009
Sincerely,
Hon. Rob Moore
Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism)
