September 14, 2010

The Honourable Gary Goodyear, Member of Parliament for Cambridge and North Dumfries welcomed the announcement made yesterday by the Honourable Peter Van Loan, Minister of International Trade. The Government of Canada is assisting communities in Ontario attract foreign investment and create jobs by investing more than $1.3 million through the Government of Canada’s Invest Canada-Community Initiatives (ICCI) program.

This year, through the Invest Canada-Community Initiatives program, the government is investing a total of $3 million to help local organizations across Canada attract foreign direct investment to their communities. The City of Cambridge is one of 21 municipalities and local organizations in Ontario that will receive funding from the Invest Canada-Community Initiatives program.

“Our government recognizes the significant role that Cambridge and North Dumfries can have on attracting foreign investment to our country” said the Hon. Gary Goodyear. “I am pleased that our community is receiving $12,500 to conduct an analysis of our manufacturing sector in an effort to create jobs by attracting further foreign investment in Cambridge and North Dumfries” said Goodyear.

The Invest Canada-Community Initiatives (ICCI) program is one of three components of the Global Commerce Support Program, established by the Government of Canada in December 2008. ICCI is designed to help Canadian communities attract, retain and expand foreign direct investment (FDI). ICCI supports non-profit and public-private partnerships at the local community level.
