August 31, 2011

The Honourable Gary Goodyear, Member of Parliament for Cambridge & North Dumfries, reminds residents of Cambridge and North Dumfries that the deadline for the Prime Minister’s Volunteer Awards (PMVA) is quickly approaching. Nominations for the PMVA will close on September 9th, 2011.

“Volunteers make an enormous impact. Yet, all too often, their contributions do not receive the recognition that they deserve,” said Minister Goodyear, “If you know of any that are making a difference in Cambridge & North Dumfries, I encourage you to recognize their contributions and show your appreciation by submitting a nomination.”

The Prime Minister’s Volunteer Awards is a new program that was created to celebrate the contributions made by individuals, businesses and not-for-profit organizations across Canada. These awards highlight best practices in community leadership and encourage partnerships across sectors.

A total of 17 awards will be given: 15 regional and 2 national awards. Recipients will be eligible to identify a not-for-profit organization to receive a grant for $5,000 (regional awards) or $10,000 (national awards).

The Regional awards include three categories: the Community Leader Award; the Business Leader Award; and the Social Innovator Award. The two national awards will be the Emerging Leader Award and the Lifelong Achievement Award.

“Don’t miss your opportunity to nominate any individual, business, or not-for-profit organization that volunteer their time, energy and skills to improve the well-being of our community” said Minister Goodyear.
