February 04, 2011

Cambridge: Today, the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Member of Parliament for Cambridge and North Dumfries, hosted his annual Seniors Information Session.  Joining Minister Goodyear was the Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of State (Seniors), along with representatives from the Canada Revenue Agency, Service Canada, health, non-profit and other community organizations dedicated to serving seniors.

“Today’s event is about bringing government, non-profit, private sector and community organizations – with a mandate dedicated to improving the well being of seniors – together.  It’s about giving our community’s seniors the opportunity to ask questions - and get answers - on the issues that matter most to them”, said Minister Goodyear, who spoke to close to 250 local seniors gathered at The Cambridge Newfoundland Club.

"Our government understands the importance of supporting seniors through our policies, programs and services," said Minister Fantino. "Events like the one Minister Goodyear has organized today, are integral in keeping seniors well-informed and active in their community."

Goodyear highlighted the federal government’s record of delivering real results for Cambridge and North Dumfries seniors.  “Through the New Horizons for Seniors grant program, Langs Farm Village Association received support to help local seniors have the opportunity to participate and take an active leadership role in the community.  This is just one example of many other community groups that have received funding to support local seniors.”
