Minister Gary Goodyear welcomes action to restore Canada’s military heritage
August 19, 2011

Minister Gary Goodyear, Member of Parliament for Cambridge-North Dumfries, issued the following statement about the Government of Canada’s decision to restore the historic designations of the Canadian Armed Forces as the Royal Canadian Navy, the Royal Canadian Air Force, and the Canadian Army.

“On behalf of the people of Cambridge-North Dumfries, I welcome the action our Conservative government has taken to acknowledge our nation's proud history, celebrate our heritage and honour the memories of so many brave Canadians who sacrificed in service to Canada.

“An important element of Canada’s military heritage was lost when the three former services were required to relinquish their historic titles.

“By reinstating the Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Canadian Air Force and the Canadian Army, our Government is restoring a central component of Canada’s military heritage.

“The proud legacy of the Royal Canadian Navy, the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Canadian Army will once again serve as a timeless link between our veterans and serving soldiers, sailors and air personnel.

“Restoring these names is an essential part of our government's commitment to acknowledge our nation's proud history, to celebrate our heritage and to honour the memories of so many brave Canadians who have sacrificed in service to Canada, said Minister Goodyear”.
