CAMBRIDGE, Ontario – On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State (Science and Technology) (Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario) and Member of Parliament (Cambridge), today announced funding for the Centre Communautaire Francophone de Cambridge.
This support will help the Centre carry out its French-language activities, which run throughout the year. The Centre supports the Francophone community of Cambridge, Kitchener–Waterloo, and Guelph by offering ongoing diverse social and cultural activities. It also provides a meeting place for members and promotes the conservation and expansion of the French language and French-Canadian culture in the area.
“Our Government is proud to support community-based organizations like the Centre Communautaire Francophone de Cambridge,” said Minister Moore. “By working to conserve Francophone heritage and culture while promoting cooperation and development between linguistic communities in the area, it provides a truly invaluable service to all.”
“I am thrilled to present this funding today on behalf of the Government of Canada,” said Minister of State Goodyear. “Our Government recognizes the importance of safeguarding our linguistic duality, and we are happy to support the Centre in its efforts and activities.”
“The Centre Communautaire Francophone de Cambridge thanks the Government of Canada for its financial support,” said Lucien Bolduc, President of the Centre. “This contribution will help us provide our French-language programs and services to the Francophone community of Cambridge and the surrounding area.”
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $17,000 through the Development of Official-Language Communities Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program aims to enhance the vitality of Canada’s official-language minority communities and enable them to fully participate in all aspects of Canadian life.
