Canada’s Government Creates Summer Jobs in Cambridge-North Dumfries
June 17, 2011

As we enjoy our first days of summer, I would like to highlight the opportunities that the Canada Summer Jobs initiative provides students here at home.

Our government received a strong mandate from residents to continue creating jobs and economic growth. That’s why, starting in 2011, we have permanently increased the budget for Canada Summer Jobs by $10 million. The additional funding for the program will create as many as 3, 500 additional jobs for students this summer across Canada, strengthening local economies and communities.

We also increased funding to Canada Summer Jobs to create employment opportunities for students and help them develop their skills. We are committed to giving a hand-up to students who are eager for a meaningful work experience and who would like to contribute to their local community and economy.

This year Cambridge-North Dumfries received $263,633 in Canada Summer Jobs funding, which will enable 95 students, to complete 60 different projects, to gain the skills they need to compete in the workplace.

For example, the Cambridge Self Help-Food Bank will receive over $8,000 in funding, which will enable two students to get hands-on experience.
Canada Summer Jobs benefits our community, our local economy and the students of Cambridge-North Dumfries. Through this initiative, our government is helping youth succeed now and in the future.
