Cambridge, Ontario — Residents in the Cambridge area will benefit from an investment of more than $4.9 million for Langs Farm Village Association to build a multi-purpose wellness centre. The announcement was made today by the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).
"Through Canada's Economic Action Plan, this investment will create jobs in Cambridge and stimulate the economy," said Minister Goodyear. "Our government is investing in facilities for families and residents to come together, stay active, and have access to employment, health and community services."
Langs Farm Village Association, a non-profit, neighborhood-based organization, will receive a contribution of up to $4,959,350 to build a 39,050-square foot wellness centre that will house early childhood programs, youth programs, a seniors centre, vocational resource centre and community health centre. The new centre will allow Langs Farm Village Association and its partners to continue to develop and implement programs and services to support residents of the community. This project will create 117 construction-related jobs as well as 20 new, full-time positions.
"This is truly a momentous day in the history of Langs Farm Village Association. This announcement will enable us to achieve our 32-year-old vision of having a centre that provides a full range of health, wellness, recreation and social programs," said Mark Godin, Chair of Langs Farm Village Association. "We are so pleased that the government is supporting our project which will bring a number of our community partners together under one roof."
Funding for this project comes from the Community Adjustment Fund in southern Ontario, which creates immediate employment opportunities and support for local economies that have been struggling with the effects of the global economic downturn. Financial support is conditional on the signing of a contribution agreement.
