FedNor Investments Strengthen the Greater Sudbury Region

Sudbury, Ontario - The Government of Canada continues to support the growth and prosperity of communities and small businesses inNorthern Ontario through investments in business development, innovation, youth initiatives and community economic development.

The Honourable Dr. Gary Goodyear, Minister of State (Science and Technology), on behalf of the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for FedNor, today announced a FedNor investment in support of 15 projects in the Greater Sudbury region (see information sheet).

“The Government of Canada, through FedNor, has and will continue to play an important role to ensure the economic prosperity of Greater Sudbury and communities across the North,” stated Minister of State Goodyear. “This investment will help strengthen the local economy, promote business development, create jobs, and support research and innovation right here in Northern Ontario.”

“Today’s announcement clearly demonstrates our government’s commitment to help strengthen the economic foundation in Northern Ontario,” stated Minister Clement. “I look forward to witnessing the positive impact these investments will deliver to the people living and working in Greater Sudbury.”
As reaffirmed in November’s Speech from the Throne, the Government of Canada is working with all Canadians to ensure they have the foundation they need to weather the economic challenges that lie ahead. Priorities are to secure jobs for families and communities, expand investment and trade and to make government more effective.

RESEARCH AND INNOVATION

$380,000
Sudbury Neutrino Observatory Institute

A FedNor investment of $380,000 will allow the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory Institute to develop a new research program, entitled SNO+. Building on the success of past research, SNO+ will search for further discoveries in diverse fields such as particle physics, astrophysics and geophysics.
