Gary Goodyear and Member of Provincial Parliament for Kitchener Centre, the Hon. John Milloy. This funding comes under the Recreational Infrastructure Canada program in Ontario (RInC Ontario) and Recreation Ontario (Ontario REC), and will support a $102,300 project. “Residents of Ontario need access to quality recreational facilities in order to maintain active and healthy lifestyles and these types of investments will ensure that communities have the key infrastructure in place to meet the needs of the citizens,” said Minister Goodyear. “Our government is proud to support recreational infrastructure investments, which stimulate the economy through job creation, and we’re proud to encourage higher levels of participation in physical activity,” Minister Goodyear added. “This funding is good news for the residents of Cambridge, and especially for members of the Victoria Park Tennis Club,” said John Milloy, MPP Kitchener Centre. “Sports and Recreation facilities have a positive and lasting impact on the health of our communities. Our government, in partnership with the federal government, has made supporting these facilities a significant priority through infrastructure investments.” This project is one of 758 first announced on June 26 by Minister Goodyear and Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Leona Dombrowsky, worth a total joint federal and provincial investment of more than $380 million. It will provide stimulus to the local economy through investments that will spur construction activity related to recreational infrastructure. Improving recreational facilities and services will also encourage higher levels of participation in physical activity and community building. “We are excited to learn that infrastructure funds have been made available to help us build a new deck and replace our aging stairs. Our club has a membership of over 400 and is a non-profit organization,” said the Victoria Tennis Park executive. “These funds along with our capital savings will help ensure that we will continue to provide the community with some of the finest public courts and facilities available in the City of Cambridge at very reasonable membership fees. People interested in becoming members should visit our website at victoriaparktennis.com to view the many programs we offer during the season.” Projects were selected on the basis of merit and construction readiness. A list of approved projects is available at www.rinc-on.ca. | ![]() July 01, 2010
