August 10, 2009

Since May 2009, the federal government’s Infrastructure Stimulus Plan has injected well over $50 million into the Cambridge-North Dumfries economy. According to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Infrastructure Calculator, these cost-shared projects are creating approximately 900 jobs.

This figure is in addition to just over 1500 (approx.) positions being created by other federal programs and initiatives in Cambridge-North Dumfries since January 2009, according to the FCM formula which calculates an investment of $87,604 as equivalent to one job.

“From the Shellard Road Bridge project, Cambridge Theatre development, and Cambridge Memorial Hospital solar wall funding to the improvements being made to our roads, our transit system, the multi-million dollar expansions made to Conestoga College, and the construction of a new recreational facility in Ayr, my number one priority has been getting our economy stimulated and helping our families,” said Member of Parliament for Cambridge–North Dumfries, Hon. Gary Goodyear. “I am extremely proud of the co-operation I’ve had with my counterparts and local officials, and I think it’s recognized that the Conservative government is taking the right action at the right time. We’ve created just over 2,600 well paid positions.” he added.

The Government of Canada's 2009 Economic Action Plan is accelerating and expanding the existing federal investment of $33 billion in infrastructure across Canada with almost $12 billion in new infrastructure stimulus funding over two years.
