MP Goodyear Announces Funding for the Cambridge Highland Games
June 12, 2009

CAMBRIDGE, ON (June 12, 2009) – The Hon. Gary Goodyear, Conservative Member of Parliament for Cambridge-North Dumfries and Minister of State (Science & Technology), on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced a funding contribution from the Government of Canada to the Cambridge Highland Games.

“The Cambridge Highland Games is extremely deserving of this funding, and I am thrilled that I have secured funding from our Government in support of local arts and culture in Cambridge,” said Minister Goodyear. “This will be an exciting weekend that reflects the vibrant cultures within Cambridge. The music, dancing, physical events, and children’s games will provide families with a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and Scottish and Celtic heritage. ”

“Our Government is proud to support the Cambridge Highland Games,” said Minister Moore. “By partnering with communities to support activities that celebrate our shared history and our rich cultural diversity, we are fulfilling our commitment to strengthen our communities and support arts, culture and heritage.”

The local organizers have received funding of $21,600 to help present the Cambridge Highland Games, which will take place on the weekend of July 17, 2009.

The Government of Canada created the Building Communities through Arts and Heritage program in September 2007. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage. This program will benefit many community events and celebrations throughout Canada this year.
