Looking for Your Recommendations on Budget 2009
July 30, 2008

Dear Constituents of Cambridge and North Dumfries

Last year’s federal budget was a balanced, focused and prudent budget to strengthen Canada amidst global economic uncertainty – continuing our Government’s record of reducing debt, lowering taxes, and focusing government spending, while providing additional support for sectors of the economy struggling in a period of uncertainty.

As the Government prepares Budget 2009, I personally invite you as valuable members of our community to make your voice heard. The Parliament of Canada’s Standing Committee is asking for all Canadians to provide their input –in person or in writing—as a part of their annual pre-budget consultation hearings.

Many of the recommendations flowing out of this consultation process are implemented in the federal budget. Businesses, organizations or individuals of all kinds are invited to participate in this important process. However, the deadlines to participate are fast approaching: July 31st is the deadline to apply to appear in-person (this fall the Committee is scheduled to visit Vancouver, Edmonton, Yellowknife, St-John’s, Moncton, Levis, Regina, Winnipeg and Toronto) and August 15th is the deadline for written submissions.

The focus of the consultations is hearing what Canadians believe the federal government’s priorities should be, and each participant is asked to make one specific recommendation in that regard.

To appear in-person –deadline July 31st:

  • Contact the Clerk of the Standing Committee on Finance, by phone at (613) 992-9753 or by e-mail at fina@parl.gc.ca. Provide your name or your group’s name along with an address, phone number or email. Also, indicate your preferred location to appear.

To make a written submission –deadline August 15th:

  • Contact the Clerk of the Standing Committee on Finance, by phone at (613) 992-9753 or by e-mail at fina@parl.gc.ca. Submissions should be no more than 5 pages in length and include a one-page summary prioritizing your proposals. Provide your name or your group’s name along with an address, phone number or email.

Additional information can be found online at www.parl.gc.ca/fina or by contacting my office. With your participation, we can help ensure the priorities of our community continue to be heard loud and clear.
