VIA Rail Honours Canada’s Veterans and Canadian Forces Members

Canada’s government has always emphasized how important our veterans and troops are and it is excellent to see a national corporation honour these individuals. For the month of July, members of the Canadian Forces and National Defence employees will receive free unlimited travel in Comfort class anywhere on VIA Rail’s network, so they can see more of the remarkable country they have helped build and that they have committed to defend.

“VIA Rail’s offer is one more way we can repay the great debt that all Canadians owe to the brave men and women who have always been willing to defend our nation,” said Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs.

In addition to the unlimited travel, Canadian Forces members can also bring up to five family members traveling with them at 50 per cent off of the regular applicable fare. This offer applies to all current and retired members of the Canadian Forces, Reserve Personnel, Department of National Defence employees, and Public Fund employees.

“This is a yet another way to honour our veterans and current members of the Canadian Forces.” said Gary Goodyear, Member of Parliament of Cambridge and North Dumfries. “I can’t think of a better way to thank the brave men and women for keeping this great nation free, than to offer them the opportunity to see it.”
