Cambridge Gets $ 4.62 Million – A Real Boost For Affordable Housing
August 09, 2007
CAMBRIDGE – Canada’s New Government and the Government of Ontario announced almost $173 million in funding to create more than 2,700 new affordable housing units in 41 towns and cities across Ontario under the Canada-Ontario Affordable Housing Program Agreement. Cambridge will receive $ 4.62 million which will assist a 66-unit development on 26 Ainslie Street; a project which is sponsored by Citymedia Group Inc. These units will be occupied by low-income individuals. “Canada's Government is working hard to give Canadians access to safe and affordable housing. I am pleased both the public and private sector are helping individuals, seniors, and families in Ontario to work towards building a better and stronger future,” said Cambridge MP Gary Goodyear. The new Canada-Ontario Affordable Housing Agreement includes a commitment of $301 million from each of the two levels of government. The agreement brings the total amount invested in affordable housing in Ontario by federal, provincial and municipal governments to at least $734 million over the life of the program. This will mean assistance to some 20,000 households under the Affordable Housing Agreement. For more information visit: http://www.cmhc.ca or http://www.mah.gov.on.ca Waterloo
