Canada’s Economic Action Plan invests in job creation for students

Cambridge, ON —More Cambridge-North Dumfries students will have an opportunity to gain valuable work experience and earn money for the upcoming school year thanks to a Government of Canada initiative. Gary Goodyear, Member of Parliament for Cambridge-North Dumfries, made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development.

“Through Canada’s Economic Action Plan, our government is increasing funding to Canada Summer Jobs, to create jobs for students and help them develop their skills,” said Mr. Goodyear. “Our government is happy to give a hand-up to students who are eager for a tangible work experience and who would like to contribute to their local community and economy.”

Canada’s Economic Action Plan increased funding by $10 million in 2009, and is again providing an additional $10 million in 2010, for Canada Summer Jobs. The initiative provides funding to not-for-profit organizations, public sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees to create summer jobs and opportunities for students. It benefits the needs of the employer, the students and their communities.

The Government of Canada is committed to helping students in Cambridge-North Dumfries. This year, through the Canada Summer Jobs initiative, approximately 54 agreements will be signed and about 89 summer jobs will be created for local students. 

Today, I’m proud to announce that the constituency of Cambridge-North Dumfries will receive approximately $265,987 in Canada Summer Jobs funding, which will enable about 89 students to gain the skills and experience necessary to compete in the labour market.

“Our government is helping Canada’s youth succeed now and in the future,” said Mr. Goodyear.
