(Cambridge, ON.) – The Hon. Gary Goodyear, Member of Parliament for Cambridge-North Dumfries and Minister of State (Science & Technology) (Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario) is pleased that the Conservative government is continuing its funding for youth programs.
Announced by Canada’s Heritage Minister the Hon. James Moore, the federal government will provide $60 million to youth programs for the next three years.
“Giving our youth the opportunity to get personally involved in activities that strengthen their attachment to our country is very important,” said Minister Goodyear. “This year alone, our government is providing 70,000 youth throughout Canada with opportunities to get involved and benefit from these programs.
The Government of Canada is providing funding to youth-service organizations across the country with a proven track record in activities that include history and heritage, civic engagement, arts and culture, and economic activities. Organizations receiving funding include Katimavik and Action Canada, who are both recognized for their work and their ability to raise private sector funds. The Conservative government is also creating a new funding program entitled “Youth Take Charge”, which will allow other youth-service organizations across the country, such as Scouts and Girl Guides, to access funds for their various projects.
